PIECING TOGETHER

1. Lay a style crest petal onto each of the fall petals and attach them together at the base of each one using the felting needle. Attach the base only. As you stab into the base of each petal it will lift the frilly end up into the air slightly and help sculpt the shape. Persevere if it doesn’t happen straight away! The bottom end of each petal should become completely embedded into each fall petal. You can needle on a little extra bright purple over the bases if you need to.

2. Now add the standard petals on top. Needle the centre down into place securely, again adding a little extra bright purple wool if you need to. Keep needling until firm and well attached.

3. Sit the iris on the corner of your foam, and needle into the underneath and side of each top standard petal until they start to sit up. The action of needling in from the top and then in from the side will eventually make the top petals sit and point upwards.

4. Finally, needle a small yellow centre and a few small navy veins into the very centre of the flower.
